What Can I Measure with General Electric Weather Station?

What Can I Measure with General Electric Weather Station

The standard General Electric Weather Station includes five sensors: irradiance, ambient temperature, module temperature, wind speed, and wind direction. The SEMS portal supports the monitoring of only one weather station. If additional weather stations are required, each one must be connected to a separate data logger.

The system is configured manually. Although additional measurements can technically be integrated, only these five parameters are displayed on the SEMS portal.

What do these five measurements tell you?

  • Irradiance: This is the solar energy falling on the panels. It provides a reference for expected production and performance rate (PR).
  • Ambient temperature: This is the temperature of the surrounding air.
  • Module temperature: This is the back surface temperature of the module and is used in the PR calculation.
  • Wind speed: Gives the wind speed at the site.
  • Wind direction: Determines the direction from which the wind is blowing.

How to Monitor General Electric Weather Station on the SEMS Portal?

general electric weather station cable connection

Data received by EZlogger is transferred to the SEMS portal. The five measurements are displayed there along with production data. Thus, the power plant’s performance, along with the measured field conditions, is evaluated on a single screen.

When production falls below expectations, irradiance data helps distinguish whether this decrease is due to atmospheric conditions or systemic factors.

Connection: Single Set and COM4 Only.

In GE setup, there are two clear rules for connectivity.

  • Only one set can be connected. Only one weather station set can be connected to an EZlogger.
  • Only COM4 is used. The connection must be made via the COM4 port on the EZlogger.

The setup is conducted as below:

  1. Mount the sensors following the instructions in the manual.
  2. Connect the single RS485 cable to the EZlogger’s COM4 port and power cables to the power supply.
  3. Configure the sensors in EZlogger to be displayed in the SEMS portal.
  4. Verify that the data is visible in the SEMS portal.

If needed, our team can provide remote support for commissioning.

Which irradiance sensor model should you choose for your General Electric Weather Station Setup?

The irradiance sensor is the hub to which external sensors are connected and has up to four input ports. The number of sensors you connect determines the model selection.

Model Connected sensors (visible in the SEMS portal)
3S-IS / 3S-IS+ Irradiance only (1 measurement)
3S-IS-1 / 3S-IS-1+ Irradiance + ambient OR module temperature (2 measurements)
3S-IS-2 / 3S-IS-2+ Irradiance + ambient OR module temperature + wind speed (3 measurements)
3S-IS-2T / 3S-IS-2T+ Irradiance + ambient + module temperature (3 measurements)
3S-IS-3 / 3S-IS-3+ Irradiance + ambient temperature + module temperature + wind speed (4 measurements)
3S-IS-4-WD / 3S-IS-4-WD+ Irradiance + ambient temperature + module temperature + wind speed + wind direction (5 measurements)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the SEVEN weather station compatible with the General Electric EZlogger?

Yes, the SEVEN General Electric weather station is designed to work with EZlogger used by General Electric.

Which measurements are displayed in the SEMS portal?

Irradiance, module temperature, ambient temperature, wind speed, and wind direction data can be monitored through SEMS portal.

How does the weather station communicate with the General Electric system?

It communicates with the EZlogger data logger via RS485. This enables measurement data to be transferred to the monitoring system for analysis and reporting.

What is the delivery time for a General Electric Weather Station?

Delivery schedules are determined by the specific order volume. For a single standard set including irradiance, module temperature, wind speed, wind direction & ambient temperature sensors, the typical shipping lead time is one week.

What is the price of the General Electric Weather Station?

Since every solar project has different needs, the price varies based on the sensors you choose. For a full professional setup including irradiance, module temperature, wind speed, direction, humidity, and ambient temperature you’re looking at a range between 470 EUR and 1045 EUR.

Does SEVEN Sensor provide support during the General Electric Weather Station installation?

Yes, SEVEN provides setup instructions, configuration resources and engineering support to help customers with installation and integration.

How many weather station sets can be connected to EZlogger?

Only one set can be connected to an EZlogger.

Can this solution be used in both rooftop and utility-scale projects?

Yes. Depending on the required measurement scope and system architecture, General Electric-compatible weather station solutions can be used in utility-scale, commercial, and industrial PV projects.
