Sunvec Weather Station
SEVEN offers a complete weather station solution fully compatible with the Sunvec datalogger. The system brings together the sensors needed to explain the energy production of a solar power plant: irradiance, module temperature, ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and relative humidity.
At the heart of the setup is the SEVEN irradiance sensor, which also functions as a sensor box. External sensors are connected to this sensor, and all collected data is transmitted to the Sunvec Datahub 1000 via a single RS485 Modbus RTU line. The datahub then displays this data on a dashboard.

What sensors are included in a Sunvec Weather Station setup?

The logic of the setup is simple. Measure field conditions that directly effect energy production and send the data to the Sunvec datahub via RS485 Modbus RTU. A standard Sunvec weather station is built around the following sensors.
- Irradiance Sensor (PV pyranometer / reference cell): Measures solar irradiation, the most important input for a PV power plant. The SEVEN irradiance sensor is designed as a sensor box with an integrated cell temperature sensor that provides a temperature-compensated irradiation value. It also features up to four input ports for additional sensors and an RS485 output to a datahub.
- Ambient Temperature Sensor: Indicates how the production process is affected by temperature. Since module temperature can vary significantly from the surrounding air, this reading is a valuable input for plant analysis.
- Module Temperature Sensor: Mounted on the back of the panel to measure back surface temperature. Module temperature is one of the factors used in performance ratio (PR) calculations.
- Wind Speed Sensor: Measures wind speed and transmits the value to Datahub.
- Wind Direction Sensor: Measures horizontal wind direction.
- Relative Humidity Sensor: Measures the relative humidity in the plant. Like other external sensors, it connects to the irradiance sensor box.
How does Sunvec Weather Station help monitor performance ratio (PR)?
When sensors send their data to the Sunvec datahub, it becomes much easier to read metrics like PR. This is because you can compare the plant’s production with the conditions the plant actually experiences.
A simple example:
- If energy production is decreasing and irradiance is also decreasing, the cause is most likely the weather.
- If output drops while irradiance remains constant, this is a stronger indication to investigate dust accumulation, inverter behavior, shading, or string issues.
How to connect the Sunvec weather station to Datahub?

The weather station communicates with the Sunvec datahub via RS485 using Modbus RTU. A typical connection is as follows.
- RS485 A / Data (+), RS485 B / Data (–) and RS485 data ground are connected to an RS485 port on the datahub.
- The sensor box is powered by a DC source. The sensors operate with 12–30 VDC, 24 VDC is recommended.
Because the irradiance sensor functions like a hub, a single RS485 line carries all measurements to the datahub.
How are the sensors activated on Sunvec Weather Station?
The configuration is done automatically. Here’s a brief summary of the process.
- Install the sensors on the PV plant according to the installation instructions in the user manual.
- Connect the RS485 communication lines and power cables to the Sunvec datahub and a suitable power supply.
- Select the sensor box on the datahub and it will be automatically configured.
- Verify the live readings and confirm that the data is appearing on the Sunvec interface.
If you wish, our team can provide remote support for the commissioning process after installation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is this weather station compatible with the Sunvec datalogger?
Yes. The weather station is designed to be fully compatible with Sunvec Datahub 1000.
How does a weather station communicate with a Sunvec datahub 1000?
Sensors communicates with the datahub via RS485 using Modbus RTU.
What measurements are included in a standard Sunvec Weather Station?
Irradiance, module temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and relative humidity & ambient temperature are standard meteorological inputs.
Can I add or remove sensors to Sunvec Weather Station as needed?
Yes. The irradiance sensor box functions like a hub and supports up to four sensor inputs. This allows you to customize the station with the sensors you need.
What is the delivery time for the Sunvec weather station?
Delivery time varies depending on the order quantity. For a single standard set including irradiance, module temperature, relative humidity & ambient temperature, wind speed, and wind direction sensors, the typical shipping time is approximately one week.
What is the price of the Sunvec weather station?
Since every solar project has different needs, the price varies depending on the sensors you choose. For a complete professional installation including irradiance, module temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and relative humidity & ambient temperature the range is approximately between 645 EUR and 1175 EUR.
Do I need any special settings to view the data in Sunvec Datahub?
The sensor box is detected automatically. Data is not required to be manually added and configured on the datahub.
