3S-RH&AT are sensors that measure the humidity and temperature of the air. Relative Humidity Sensors are used for estimating spectral variations that can impact the solar plant’s performance. According to IEC61724-1:2021, measurements of relative humidity can be used to determine changes in incidence spectrum that could impact the power output of PV modules and the readings from irradiance sensors. Furthermore, the temperature and pressure of the surrounding air affect how much moisture it can contain. As a result, the main determinant of relative humidity is ambient temperature. The impacts of relative humidity on solar power plants include increased heat transfer from the cell surface and refraction of incoming sunlight. Last but not least, the times of wetness due to condensation can also be calculated by combining humidity data and ambient temperature data.  All of these reasons show the impact of relative humidity and ambient temperature sensors on the performance of photovoltaic systems.

What is the working principle of Relative Humidity and Ambient Temperature sensor?

For a more precise assessment of the surrounding humidity, the Relative Humidity Sensor has a UV-resistant protective shield. The transmitter within is shielded by this. More precisely, the 3S-RH&AT measures ambient temperature and relative humidity using a measuring transmitter with an I²C output. With a 7-pin connector, it can be linked to SEVEN Irradiance Sensor or Sensor Box types. Additionally, dataloggers and other receiving devices can be directly attached to it.

How to install Relative Humidity and Ambient Temperature Sensor?

Before installation, it is advised that the system be run at ground level to ensure that every part is functioning as it should.

The sensor should be positioned away from any dark, reflective, or heat-absorbing objects in order to choose the best spot. It is preferable to mount the product on the building’s side that faces the direction of the predominant wind when it is to be installed on a rooftop. Additionally, the sensor should not be placed next to any heat sources, such as vents or chimneys.

Installing a sensor can be done in two phases. First, the mounting structure for the ambient temperature and relative humidity sensors needs to be put in place. After that, the sensors need to be fastened to the mounting framework.

Why Choose Seven Relative Humidity and Ambient Temperature Sensor?

  • High Accuracy: Provides accurate wind direction data with little variation, guaranteeing the data’s dependability.
  • Weather Resistance: Perfect for outdoor use, the plastic structure guarantees resistance to corrosion, UV deterioration, and other environmental influences.
  • Shield: The device comes with a UV-resistant shield that protects the relative humidity and temperature sensors.
