SICO weather station

SICO weather station consists of an irradiance sensor, which also functions as a hub, temperature, wind, and humidity sensors. External sensors are plugged directly into ports on the irradiance sensor.

Ultimately, a single RS485 line goes from the field to the RAPITLog. There’s no need to run separate cables or allocate separate ports for each sensor. This simplifies installation and keeps cabling straightforward in a mixed-brand field environment.

  • RS485 A / Data (+), RS485 B / Data (–) and RS485 data ground are connected to an RS485 port on the RAPITLog.
  • The sensor box is powered by a DC source. The sensors operate with 12–30 VDC, 24 VDC is recommended.

What data does SICO Weather Station measure in the field, and why?

A weather station alone doesn’t make sense of production data; it makes it readable in conjunction with field conditions. The SICO weather station measures the answers to the following questions.

  • How much sunlight is hitting the panels? The irradiance sensor provides the reference against which the production is compared. This is the basis of the performance ratio (PR) calculation.
  • How does temperature affect production? The module temperature sensor measures the surface temperature of the module, while the ambient temperature sensor measures the ambient air temperature. The difference between the two is important in efficiency analysis.
  • What are the field conditions like? Wind speed and direction sensors, along with a relative humidity sensor, complete the real-time status of the site.

How to Monitor and Record with the RAPITLog?

RAPITLog comes with a web application for configuration, visualization, and access to recorded data. You define the weather station, configure settings, and monitor its data from a single screen using this interface.

Since you can access past records from the same web application, real-time monitoring and historical analysis are gathered in one place. There is no need for a separate reporting tool.

Installation and Introduction of SICO Weather Station

Installation consists of two phases: field assembly and demonstration via the web application.

  1. Mount the sensors in a way that is compatible with the panels and according to the installation instructions in the manual.
  2. Connect the RS485 wires to the RAPITLog and power wires to a suitable power supply.
  3. In the RAPITLog web application, add the weather station as a new Modbus RTU device and configure the communication parameters (baud rate, parity, device address).
  4. Match the metrics you want to track with the addresses on our Modbus maps.
  5. Verify live readings in the web application.

Our team can provide remote support for these steps if needed.

Which Irradiance Sensor Models are compatible with SICO Dataloggers?

Since the irradiance sensor acts as a hub, the number of external sensors you connect determines which model to choose. The table below summarizes what can be added to each model. All models connect to RAPITLog via RS485 Modbus RTU.

Model Connectable External Sensors
3S-IS / 3S-IS+ External sensors cannot be connected (irradiance only).
3S-IS-1 / 3S-IS-1+ Ambient Temperature OR Module Temperature Sensor
3S-IS-2 / 3S-IS-2+ Ambient/Module Temperature Sensor + Wind Speed Sensor
3S-IS-3 / 3S-IS-3+ Ambient Temperature + Module Temperature + Wind Speed Sensor
3S-IS-4-WD / 3S-IS-4-WD+ Ambient Temperature + Module Temperature + Wind Speed + Wind Direction Sensor
3S-IS-4-RH / 3S-IS-4-RH+ Module Temperature + Wind Speed + Relative Humidity & Ambient Temperature
3S-IS-5 / 3S-IS-5+ Module Temperature + Wind Speed + Wind Direction Sensor + Relative Humidity & Ambient Temperature
3S-IS-6+ Module Temperature + Wind Speed + Wind Direction Sensor + Relative Humidity & Ambient Temperature & Pressure
3S-2IS / 3S-3IS / 3S-4IS For large sites with multiple orientations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this weather station compatible with all SICO RAPITLog Dataloggers?

Yes. It’s designed for SICO integrations and it’s compatible with RapitLog Dataloggers.

How does the weather station communicate with RAPITLog?

The weather station communicate with RAPITLog via RS485 using Modbus RTU.

What measurements are typically included in the standard Huawei weather station setup?

Irradiance, module temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and relative humidity & ambient temperature are standard weather station inputs.

What is the price of SICO Weather Station?

The price varies depending on the sensors you choose; a complete professional installation costs approximately between 645 EUR and 1175 EUR.

What is the delivery time for SICO Weather Station?

Typical delivery time for a single standard set is about one week.

Can I access the RAPITLog web application remotely?

Configuration, monitoring, and access to historical data are done via the web application. Remote access depends on your site's network setup. For details regarding network configuration, you should refer to SICO’s RAPITLog documentation.
