Irradiance Sensor For Rooftop PV Projects

Irradiance Sensor for Rooftop PV

SEVEN Sensor has developed a new product specifically designed for rooftop PV projects with dual orientations. The 3S-2IS model is the ideal solution for projects where panel counts and directions vary, and where accurate PR (Performance Ratio) calculations are essential.

In PV installations, it’s crucial to know how many orientations the panels have and how many modules are installed in each direction. For a reliable PR calculation, each orientation on-site should be equipped with one irradiance sensor and one panel temperature sensor. However, when using multiple irradiance sensors, standard datalogger monitoring systems often assume an equal number of panels for each sensor orientation.  This can lead to inaccurate PR values, especially in systems where panel counts differ between directions.

The 3S-2IS irradiance sensor board allows you to connect two separate reference cells.  Through the GUI, you can enter the number of panels associated with each orientation.  Based on this input, the datalogger monitoring system can accurately calculate the PR, taking into account the actual distribution of the panels. For dual-orientation PV systems, this solution offers both practicality and precision—making it the most effective and economical choice for such configurations.
